this is the pro audio suite podcast
00:03
quick bytes
00:05
welcome to this week’s pro audio suite
00:06
podcast we’re a little short on numbers
00:08
this week so you’re stuck with just
00:10
George and I but we thought it would be
00:12
timely to have a quick chat about the
00:15
new Mac operating system called Catalina
00:18
which I don’t think anything is war in
00:21
terms of audio editing software’s
00:22
working on at the moment George would
00:24
that be right you know I haven’t gone
00:25
out and done a search for DAWs and
00:28
software that are Catalina approved yet
00:31
but I can tell you that if there is one
00:33
out there it’s the minority yeah right
00:35
Catalina has so many new features and
00:38
also security measures to make it super
00:41
super secure and in doing so it has made
00:45
it much more challenging for the
00:47
software that you run the drivers the
00:50
plugins all of those things too to run
00:53
without having jumped through a few
00:56
fiery hoops provided by Apple so you
00:58
might have a software that runs now and
01:00
in the moment you install Catalina it
01:03
may not so that would be my question
01:05
then if Apple are developing a brand new
01:09
operating system when they understand
01:11
that big operators like avid like Adobe
01:15
all these guys are basing their software
01:18
around the Mac operating platform why
01:22
aren’t they working in conjunction with
01:23
these guys do you have any idea on that
01:25
I really don’t I mean I have to imagine
01:29
there are some beta testers because you
01:31
can obviously you can get on the beta
01:33
program with Apple and you can get the
01:35
beta versions of these programs you know
01:37
oh s is months in advance but the way it
01:42
goes with these operating systems apples
01:43
on such a furious update schedule they
01:45
put one out no matter what no matter
01:47
what they put one out every fall and
01:50
that thing isn’t always ready when the
01:54
calendar says time for a new Mac o OS
01:57
and so you know those companies may even
02:00
have a beta version they may have the
02:02
driver working but then you know two
02:04
weeks later there’s something new in
02:06
Catalina that happened between the beta
02:08
and the final gold release or whatever
02:11
they call it and presto it doesn’t work
02:13
any
02:13
or so they can beta test things all day
02:16
but whatever goes out on day one from
02:19
Apple it may not be what they’ve been
02:21
testing and this is just the way Apple
02:23
operates and this is why every single
02:25
year this time of year I say please do
02:27
not install the new OS from Apple right
02:30
away give it at least three or four dot
02:34
versions so 10.15 is Catalina there’s
02:37
gonna be dot 1015 dot one and two and
02:40
three and we at least until version 3.3
02:44
I’m even more you know behind the times
02:47
on updates I I have Mojave and on my
02:50
hard drive ready to install that I
02:52
haven’t even installed it yet I would
02:55
probably think about installing it now
02:57
because Mojave is fully updated um it
03:00
will never get better than it is because
03:02
now we’re at Catalina so for me now
03:05
that’s a that’s a finished OS mmm it’s
03:09
kind of like it it’s released and it
03:11
takes a year of refining and at the end
03:13
of the year
03:13
hey it’s ready yeah so that’s the way I
03:16
look at these things and it you know if
03:18
it ain’t broke just don’t fix it folks
03:20
cuz you’re gonna make new problems so we
03:22
all make stupid mistake mistakes and we
03:24
all know about the little pop-up
03:25
reminder to update if is there anything
03:28
I can do to stop that popping up oh yeah
03:31
I just googled about this today and
03:34
stumbled on a script you can install um
03:37
I frankly don’t have that resource at my
03:40
fingertips but if you do a little google
03:42
search for it tell my Mac to stop
03:44
prompting to update to upgrade to
03:48
Catalina I’m sure you’ll find this
03:50
article and it’s just a single line of
03:52
code that you run in the terminal and it
03:55
disables that feature and it just stops
03:57
nagging you and that’s probably good
04:00
idea cuz even if you have no intention
04:01
of doing it when you nags you the 700th
04:03
time you know with kids when they say
04:06
daddy dad you go no no no no no and they
04:09
keep asking and eventually if they hold
04:12
out long enough you’re gonna probably
04:13
say yes that’s kind of how these things
04:15
hearts right you know just you can
04:19
install it when you least wanted to and
04:21
forget to say no or click the wrong
04:23
button so gotta be careful yeah
04:26
cool good advice all right well the
04:29
final word on Catalina is don’t do it at
04:33
least right now then so wait until 13.4
04:36
yeah not quite yet
04:38
